A true southern lady always keeps her pantry stocked with the necessary requirements to throw together  a last minute social engagement.  These cracker varieties are a tried and true favorite.  They are excellent as an hors d’oeuvre or snacker. Pair them with any dairy based dip and you have a winning combination.  They are also fantastic crumbled on top of a salad.

I do not know where they originated.  But they are delicious.  Two varieties are listed below and are prepared the same way.

Dill Crackers

1 box Saltine Crackers (4 sleeves)

3 Tablespoons Dill Weed

1 Package ranch seasoning

1 1/2 cups Canola oil

Fire Crackers

1 box Saltine Crackers (4 sleeves)

3 Tablespoons Red Pepper Flakes

1 Package ranch seasoning

1 1/2 cups Canola oil

Mix the dill weed or pepper flake, ranch seasoning, and oil in a container.Place the crackers in a one gallon zip top bag.  Pour the oil mixture over the crackers.  Zip the bag and roll it around till the crackers are coated.  Turn the bag  at least 4 times over the next 2 hours to ensure proper absorption. Store in an airtight container.  For a stronger flavor allow the oil mixture to infuse for up to an hour before adding it to the crackers.
