This poem goes out to the mothers of all preschoolers, past and present.  I love staying with my kids, and if I have to give up a tidy house, so be it.

Bless this Mess

Bless this mess
Because it means I am alive
To enjoy another play day
With my family by my side

There are puddles in the hallway
And handprints on the wall
But playing in the sprinklers
Made it worth it all

The picnic on the lawn
Put stains on your knees
And the popsicle that melted
Made your shirt all wet and sticky
There is sand in the bed sheets
Dirt clods in the kitchen
And for now it all must sit there
Because this mom is just too busy

After bedtime books are over
I will clean the slate
I will prepare the floors and windows
For another day of play

Tomorrow please rise early
I can not wait to see your face
We can plan our next adventure
As we go about our day

Childhood goes to quickly
There is no time to spare
That is why my kids do not make messes
They just make memories everywhere
